Subject-Wise Marks: What Your SMS Result Really Shows
- You sent your roll number, the reply came back in seconds, and it said one number. Total marks. Pass.
- Then the questions start. How many did I get in Maths? Did Chemistry pull me down? Is it worth applying for rechecking?
- The SMS cannot answer any of that — and it was never built to.
Why the SMS Reply Only Shows Total Marks
A board SMS reply is a single text message sent through a shared gateway. It carries your roll number, your name, your total marks obtained, and your pass or fail status. That is the full payload.
Nine subjects, each with theory and practical components, will not fit inside one text message. So every Punjab BISE board — Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and DG Khan — sends the summary and stops there.
The SMS is a confirmation tool, not a marksheet. Treat it as the fastest way to know whether you passed, and nothing more.
Where to Get Your Subject-Wise Marks
There are three reliable sources for the per-subject breakdown. Each one is more detailed than the last.
1. Your Board’s Official Result Portal
The portal shows the complete subject-wise result: marks per subject, theory and practical split where applicable, total marks, and grade.
- Open your board’s official results page.
- Select SSC Part 2 / 10th Class Annual Examination 2026.
- Enter your roll number exactly as printed on your roll number slip.
- Save or screenshot the full result screen once it loads.
On announcement day the official sites slow down badly under load. If the page will not open, wait ten to fifteen minutes and try again rather than switching to an unfamiliar site.
2. The Result Gazette PDF
The result gazette is the board’s official published record of every registered candidate. It is released shortly after the announcement.
Open the PDF, press CTRL+F on a computer or CMD+F on iPhone, and search your roll number. The gazette entry is the authoritative version of your result — more so than the web display, which can glitch under heavy traffic in the first hour.
3. Your DMC (Detailed Marks Certificate)
The DMC is the printed, board-issued document with your subject-wise marks, signed and stamped. It reaches your school a few weeks after the result. This is the copy colleges and employers eventually ask for.
The online result and the gazette are provisional. The DMC is final.
Why the Breakdown Actually Decides Your Next Move
Total marks tell you the outcome. Subject-wise marks tell you what to do about it.
Rechecking. Boards charge a rechecking fee per subject, and applications close within a short window after the announcement. Without per-subject marks you have no idea which paper to challenge — and paying for all nine is money thrown away. Look for the subject where your marks sit far below your usual performance. That gap is your case.
Supplementary exam. If you failed, the SMS says “Fail” and leaves you guessing. The portal names the subject. You cannot register for the supply exam until you know it.
College merit and group selection. FSc Pre-Medical admissions weigh Biology and Chemistry. Pre-Engineering weighs Maths and Physics. ICS weighs Maths. A student with 850 total marks and weak Maths is in a different position from a student with 850 and weak Islamiyat — same number, different future. Merit lists are built on totals, but your stream should be chosen on the breakdown.

Both draw from the same board database, so the total should match. If it does not, the gazette PDF is the version to trust, and the DMC settles it permanently.
How long until I get my DMC?
The certified marksheet reaches your school a few weeks after the announcement. Collect it in person and check every subject line against your online result.
My SMS total looks wrong. What now?
Check the portal first — a mismatch is usually a display error in the first busy hour. If the gap is still there after a day, apply for rechecking within the board’s deadline.
