Failed One Subject? Matric Compartment Rules 2026
The 10th class result 2026 will be announced on August 6, 2026 at 10:00 AM by the Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen for all nine Punjab boards. If your marks in one or two subjects land below the pass line that morning, the year is not lost. Punjab boards let you clear those papers separately in the supplementary examination — what students and teachers across Punjab still call the compartment exam.
Reading this before result day is the point. The decisions that follow are time-bound, and the clock starts on August 6.
What “Compartment” Means on a Punjab Board Result
The word “compartment” is never printed on a BISE result card. It carried over from an older examination system and stayed in everyday use. What you will see is a subject-wise breakdown — marks against each paper, with pass or fail status.
Any subject below 33% counts as unpassed. Every other subject stays passed permanently, and you never re-sit those. You re-appear only in the failed paper. That is what being “in compartment” means: one or two papers pending, not a repeated year.
How the SSC Result Is Compiled
Your matric result combines SSC Part I (9th class) and Part II (10th class) into a total of 1,100 marks. A subject failed in 9th class carries forward and is cleared the same way. A strong aggregate does not rescue a weak subject — 33% is required paper by paper. In Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science, the practical component counts toward that subject’s result under your board’s passing policy.
Your Options If a Subject Does Not Clear
1. Supplementary (Compartment) Examination
The default route, and the right one for nearly every student in this position. You register only for the failed subject or subjects and sit that paper alone. Once cleared, your board issues a full SSC certificate — colleges do not treat it differently from a first-attempt pass.
Punjab boards typically hold the supplementary exam two to three months after the annual result, placing the 2026 papers around October–November. Registration goes through your school or your BISE board office. Each board publishes its own admission form, deadline and fee in a separate notification, so use the current notice rather than last year’s figures.
2. Rechecking, If the Marks Look Wrong
If you finish within a few marks of 33%, consider rechecking before committing to the supply exam. The fee is Rs 1,200 per subject and applications close roughly 15 days after the announcement. Rechecking is a re-totalling and a check for any unmarked portion — not a re-evaluation of your answers. Marks can rise; they cannot fall.
Verify your figures in the official gazette before applying. On result morning, board servers run under heavy load and the web display can render incorrectly in the first hour.
3. Repeating the Full Year
Rarely necessary. This applies only if a large number of papers go unpassed, or if your board’s rules do not permit supplementary in your specific case. Boards set a limit on how many subjects can be cleared through supplementary — check your own board’s notification rather than assuming.
What It Means for College Admission
Punjab colleges calculate merit on total marks, not on how many attempts you took. A supplementary pass gives you a valid SSC certificate for FSc, ICS, I.Com and FA admission. The real cost is timing: intermediate admissions often open before supply results are declared, which can push you into a later admission cycle. Once your marks are out, run them through the merit calculator.
Students who pass but want a higher aggregate have a different route — the improvement examination. BISE Lahore allows up to four improvement attempts within four years of first passing.
Before August 6, Do This
Save your board’s SMS code so you can check your result without depending on the website. If a subject does come up short, confirm it in the gazette, decide on rechecking within the 15-day window, and collect the supplementary form from your school as soon as the schedule is notified.
